The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - CALABARZON, working alongside DOST Quezon, has implemented a range of science and technology (S&T) initiatives in the island municipality of Jomalig, Quezon.

Technical experts have just completed their evaluation of the Solar-Powered Water Purification System to provide the community with a reliable source of potable water.

To support public health initiatives, the team set up a new RxBox at the Rural Health Unit (RHU).

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) also provided complimentary calibration services for the weighing scales utilized by Rural Health Units (RHUs) and Barangay Health Centers. This was done to guarantee precise medical and nutritional assessments.

The visit also involved assessing the operational status of disaster risk reduction (DRR) equipment. This included the Automated Rain Gauge (ARG) and the SIGAW/TEWS early warning devices.

To boost education, STARBOOKS or digital science libraries will be installed at Jomalig National High School.

These activities are part of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program, which has been serving the island since 2017.

Expressing her gratitude, Jomalig Acting Mayor Dahlia Manalo said, “DOST’s projects are highly valuable. Despite our remote location, we are fortunate to be prioritized and supported by your agency.”
