Cavaliers acquire all-star guard Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz in exchange for multiple players and unprotected picks and first round swaps in the succeeding years.

The Utah Jazz have taken their rebuilding process into greater lengths, trading All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers for three others, just two months after sending All-NBA center Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

On Thursday, multiple reports emerged that Mitchell will be headed to the Cavaliers, and in exchange, three players are heading to Salt Lake City including Guard Collin Sexton, forward Lauri Markkanen, and rookie guard Ochai Agbaj.

Joining Sexton, and Markkanen, are Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt and Leandro Bolmaro.

Aside from the three players, Jazz executive Danny Ainge also sought draft picks and ended up getting three unprotected first-rounders and two first-round swaps in the deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The unprotected picks from the Cavaliers are in 2025, 2027 and 2029 with the pick swaps being in 2026 and 2028, while the Timberwolves owe the Jazz their first-round picks in 2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029, plus another 2026 swap.

Only Minnesota's 2029 first-round pick is protected (for top five).

Sexton, playing only 11 games for the Cavaliers last season before undergoing season-ending surgery on his left knee and being a restricted free agent, is signing a new four-year deal worth $72 million that’s fully guaranteed in the sign-and-trade deal, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Mitchell averaged 23.9 points, 4.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds this past season on 45 percent shooting from the field and was named an All-Star in his third straight year.

Sexton then averaged 20.0 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in 218 games, Markkanen meanwhile averaged 14.8 points and 5.7 rebounds in 61 games last season, his first with the Cavaliers, andAgbaji was the14th overall pick in the 2022 draft after being named an All-American at Kansas.

He averaged 18.8 points in 39 games last season and was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament as he steered the Jayhawks toward a national title.
