The Department of Labor and Employment is holding this months “specialized” job fairs tailored to meet the requirements of a certain sector.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) plans to hold more "specialized" job fairs where applicants will have a better chance of being hired.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma made the announcement as DOLE prepared to hold a "specialized" job fair with the Semiconductor & Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation Inc. (SEIPI) this week.

Over 1,400 vacancies are expected to be available at the event, which will be held from November 16 to 18 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Available vacancies include engineers, apprentice engineers, technicians, production supervisors, export supervisors, production operators, analysts, and accountants.

Laguesma added that they adopted this strategy in order to boost the effectiveness of job fairs which the department regularly holds.

These “specialized” job fairs are tailored to the requirements of a specific industry, sector, or job seeker compared to regular job fairs.

“This will be part of our policy thrust and direction to maximize the results of job fairs being conducted to make it more organized and focused and ensure that majority if not all, of those who will go to job fairs will be hired on the spot or be ‘near hires,’ which means being employed is almost a certainty,” Laguesma told Business Mirror.

Moreover, DOLE will still continue to conduct traditional job fairs to cater to all sectors and industries.

Last September, DOLE held another job fair in collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to assist hotels in filling vacancies.

Over 8,000 event participants were hired on the spot or were near hires.

Laguesma added that the placement rate at the tourism-related job fair was higher than at DOLE's regular job fairs, which probably prompted the idea of the “specialized” job fairs.

Job fairs allow employers to meet qualified, motivated candidates. It's a win-win situation in which a company can seek qualified employees while candidates can find jobs that match their skill set and objectives.

It is highly encouraged to attend this kind of opportunity for those who are seeking jobs.
