The Department of Health Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development, in collaboration with the Provincial DOH Office of Eastern Samar led by Dr. Jean Marie Egargo, launched the ‘Purokalusugan’ program in San Julian, Eastern Samar, on February 26, 2025.
This initiative represents a significant step toward achieving Universal Health Care in the region. The DOH ‘Purokalusugan’ program is a crucial program designed to provide healthcare services to remote areas, ensuring that no individual is overlooked.
The launch event benefited 343 individuals, who received an extensive array of health services. These included medical consultations, assessments for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), flu and pneumococcal vaccinations tailored for senior citizens, prenatal care, breast exams, as well as HIV testing and counseling, and RAPID HEADSS assessments.
Moreover, children were given essential health interventions such as Oral Polio Vaccination (OPV), routine immunizations, registration for Moderate Acute Malnutrition/Severe Acute Malnutrition (MAM/SAM), deworming treatments, and Vitamin A supplementation.
The event was also participated of the key local leaders and health officials, barangay officials, Barangay Health Workers, Municipal Health Officers (MHOs) from LGU Guiuan, Doctors to the Barrios (DTTBs), pharmacists, nutritionist-dietitians, Human Resources for Health (HRH) staff, and volunteers from the nearby towns of San Julian, Guiuan, Dolores, and Oras in Eastern Samar.
Through the implementation of the ‘Purokalusugan’ program, the Department of Health reinforces its dedication to ensuring that every Filipino has access to critical healthcare services, no matter their location.
This launch marks a significant advancement in the agency’s mission to eliminate health disparities and promote equitable health services for all.
By fostering community partnerships and directly reaching those in need, ‘Purokalusugan’ lays the foundation for a healthier and more inclusive Eastern Visayas.
