DOH: Calabarzon looking 'healthier'

In line with the implementation of the Department of Health’s (DOH) 8-Point Action Agenda for the Philippine Development plan 2023-2028, DOH Calabarzon Region presented its accomplishment of making this region healthier.

This was during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas hosted by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Calabarzon with representatives from DOH Calabarzon led by Assistant Secretary and Concurrent Regional Director Dr. Ariel Valencia and Assistant Regional Director Dr. Leda Hernandez.

“Nais po ng ating kagawaran na ang bawat Pilipino ay ramdam ang kalusugan. Ligtas at kalidad ang mapagkalingang serbisyo,” Valencia said in his opening message.

Health infrastructure

“Nakapag-establish and develop na po kami ng 81 super health centers with the total amount po na P758 million. Nagkaroon din po kami ng 17 public hospitals na nagkakahalaga ng P484 million at 4 Regional DOH hospitals na total amount na P737 million, and Rehabilitation centers na nagkakahalaga ng P235 million,” DOH officials reported during the forum.

In terms of transportation, DOH stated that 68 land ambulances amounting to P170 million were turned over to different LGUs, as well as a sea ambulance worth P6 million.

Services rendered

The main beneficiary of a working healthcare is the patient.

From June 2022 to 2024, DOH reported catering to 590,325 patients and distributed medicines, vaccines, health kits, and medical supplies to local governments amounting to P3.8 billion.

They were also able to serve 3,204 patients from 10 indigenous population, 3,189 patients under the Labs For All Service Caravan, and 1,415 under Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair.

Meanwhile, a program exclusive to the region is the TEENDIG Kabataan Project which offers physical, sexual, and mental health services to the youth community.

“Yun pong TEENDIG Kabataan, yun po ay sa Region 4-A lang meron kasi alam natin na maraming health issues ang kabataan kaya noong iyan po ay pinag-iisipang gawin ay nagpa-pilot po tayo sa 31 congressional district po ng high school at namili po kung saan maraming mga estudyante,” officials said.

Better health status

DOH also reported better rates in terms of different major health indicators.

“Sa maternal mortality ratio na base on target po natin na 70 ay naipababa po natin ang mga namamatay dahil sa panganganak na naging 42 po. Infant Mortality Rate ang base line po natin ay 15 napababa po nating ng siyam,” Valencia reported.

“Under Five Mortality Rate ang baseline target natin ay 25, napababa rin po natin ng 12. Sa standing preference ang baseline target po natin ay 13.5 percent ay naipababa po natin ng 6 percent,” he added.

Health Workers Increased DOH also said that since there is much demand for more health workers, their agency has added 5,580 health workers deployed throughout Calabarzon with a total combined salary of P3.5 billion.

P5.2 billion out of P10.8 billion of Health Emergency Allowance for health workers during the pandemic had also been disbursed and given.
