While at the Iloilo Gateway Hotel and Suites, I and my friend, award-winning polymath, visual artist, filmmaker and teacher Bon Labora have just proposed an art exhibit at the hotel.

When I mentioned it to Aristeo Demavivas, the singer, yes, and the place’s General Manager, he was excited about it.

Bon, you know, has a wide and boundless network of artists all over the Philippines.

He can always gather them to organize a group exhibit even in Iloilo.

For instance, Bon has just formed “Po Lite,” a Selfie Wall of art works at the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) in Paco, Manila during the birthday party of the so-called Queen of Inventors Ria Liza Centeno Canlas.

As an art patroness, Ria Liza gave way to Bon in exhibiting art pieces painted on tiles invented by her.

Among the participants in the show were artists Egay Gomez, Angel So and Life.

“We can always invite the works of Manila artists Egay, Angel and Life anywhere. It’s another project, though. Their creations are very unique and appeal to all classes in society. We can export them to Iloilo if Mr. Demavivas would like them. I can bring them to any part of the country,” explained Bon.

But the concept of the art show in IGHS is an encouragement to the enhancement of local artists in Iloilo and its neighboring places. Of course, there are famous and emerging visual artists in the region as we encourage regional art,” elucidated Labora.

At the PCA art exhibit, diverse themes and materials qualified for the show.

Angel’s works were the light-colored, candy-coated strokes as neat and dandy as herself, a very young woman bringing joy and smiles to many people around her.

“I used a lowbrow approach to such sunshiny colors as tangerine, red and other related hues and images like ribbons, balloons, fruits like strawberries and oranges and many other cool objects. They are the mirrors of my person. I am a very candid girl,” described Angel in our casual conversation while we were seatmates in the event.

Egay, a polished and wizard painter has a very unique way of expressing himself on canvas.

Gomez’s attack is the impressionistic genre that gives away some hip and iconoclast views on life.

Meanwhile, Life’s concerns are the lives of the common people in an expressionist approach.

According to them, using a tile canvas was very challenging.

“You’ve got to measure the materials before splashing them on canvas because the colors might dilute anytime so a calculated move was applied to make the image stuck to the tile,” shared So.

“I am happy that these young artists have contributed much to my birthday. They are all wonderful creators of life,” commented Centeno Canlas.

“Aside from Egay, Life and Angel, I have other artists who can display their life’s skills to the public anytime, any place,” said Bon, an art preservationist.

Meanwhile, Hilabaan, Dolores Eastern Samar entertainment journalist Art Tapalla is proud of the engineering firm of his nephew-in-law in Samar called CVB Structural Solutions.

In the advent of anomalous and substandard flood control projects, Engr. Andy Valles Balena is assuring the public of his highly reliable public and private works.
