In today’s world where technology is now the norm, there is a pressing need for our students to be educated early and properly on how to make the best of technology.
While those already in school have the resources available to take advantage of the fast-paced advances of modern technology, the same cannot be assured of out-of-school youth and those who wish to pursue their education but are unable to due to poverty or lack of time.
This is one particular issue the city government of Biñan, Laguna now seeks to solve as it entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) last August 11.
Mayor Gel Alonte, along with officials of the Biñan Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) – Tech4Ed Center and the Biñan City DepEd Schools Division Office (SDO), inked an agreement to bring Digital Literacy Training to students under DepEd’s Alternative Learning System (ALS).
Under the program, ALS learners in Biñan City will be taught basic skills on using the computer, Internet and other digital tools in the course of their education.
Alonte noted that the program is part of his administration’s wider program to accelerate digitalization in Biñan City.
Through the program, the city government of Biñan hopes to equip Biñanenses with the proper skills and tools to navigate a world that is increasingly becoming digital.
"Isa sa mga pangunahing prayoridad ng ating lungsod ang digitalization, at nararapat lamang na ito ay bukas at abot-kamay para sa lahat ng Biñanense," the city executive said.
