The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recently launched its national digitalization initiatives called eGOVph and eLGU on October 21 in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The program aims to enhance government services through digital technology.

DICT Undersecretary David Almirol explained that eGOVph, or the Philippine e-Governance program, is designed to improve service delivery by offering online platforms for essential government functions like business registration, tax payments, and public document access.

He emphasized that the program will increase transparency, accessibility, and efficiency.

Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura, President of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines Cebu Chapter, expressed support for the first Cebu launch of the program outside Luzon.

Shimura noted that local government units (LGUs) typically spend P40 to P70 million on digitalization programs but welcomed eGOVph as a free solution for LGUs.

The program aims to empower citizens, streamline government processes, and improve governance across the country, including in remote areas.

Shimura also advocated for the expansion of the initiative to Bantayan Island, Camotes Island, and Cebu’s Fourth District, which has a population of over 500,000.
