There’s still little to celebrate for the ordinary Filipino, such as these buying seafood along a “talipapa” in Malabon City. Despite official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) claiming that the inflation rate for January decreased to 2.8 percent from the 3.9 percent reported in December 2023 – a far cry from the “all-time high” of 8.7 percent recorded in January 2023 – the fact remains that prices of many consumer goods still make it hard for Filipinos to budget their incomes.
