Multiple sources have reported that DLSU will not be renewing the contract of Derrick Pumaren for S86 after an underwhelming season.

After a disappointing UAAP Season 85, De La Salle University will now move forward with their program and decided not to renew the contract of head coach Derrick Pumaren which is set to expire on December 31.

Multiple sources closely tied to Tiebreaker Times have come forward with the news and revealed that a meeting between team officials on Tuesday afternoon had transpired.

According to the report by Tiebreaker Times, the Green Archers will let go of their head tactician after a much-anticipated season with generational talents such as Schonny Winston, Mike Phillips, and Kevin Quiambao was put to naught.

Pumaren was appointed as the head coach back in January 2020, returning to DLSU after more than three decades since leading the team to back-to-back titles in S52 and 53, and immediately brought the team back to life.

In his first year back at his turf, Pumaren was able to steer the Green Archers back to the Final Four after missing to punch a ticket through in the last five years.

The Green Archers eventually settled for bronze in S84 after losing a rubber match against the ultimate titlist that year, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.

However, Pumaren and his deputies were very much committed and faithful in their talents and decided to compete in the Filoil Ecooil Preseason Cup and the PBA D-League, winning the latter, to prepare for S85.

And as everyone has been made aware at this time, the DLSU Green Archers unfortunately bowed out of contention as they failed to reach the Final Four yet again in S85 due to vital cogs missing towards the end of the season.

Despite the rumors, Pumaren claims that he has yet to be notified by the school regarding its decision to kick him out.

“They have not formally notified me,” said Pumaren to Sports Inquirer.
“And if it is true, they lacked the decency to inform me before disclosing the information to the media. I believe that this DOES NOT exemplify a true La Sallian gentleman, in my opinion,” he added.

As of writing, La Salle has yet to address the issue but speculations have arise that Lady Archers’ head coach Cholo Villanueva is the person of interest for the job vacancy.
