DepEd suspends classes to give way to the national elections.
The Department of Education (DepEd) announced the suspension of classes from Kinder to Grade 12 in all public schools nationwide from May 2 to 13, 2022.
This is to give way to the preparations and activities to be held for the upcoming National Elections on May 9. In accordance with DepEd Order No. 29, s. 2021, or the monthly school calendar of activities for school year 2021-2022, said days are for national election-related activities of faculty and staff.
“Inilaan ang mga nasabing araw upang magampanan ng mga guro at kawani ng DepEd ang kanilang election-related duties,” DepEd said in an advisory.
“Samantala, kung walang gawain na election-related, ang guro ay kailangang mag-report pa rin sa paaralan,” it added.
The teaching and non-teaching staff will be rendering their services for elections-related activities as per usual. Teachers will serve as Electoral Board (EB) and Poll Workers as over 67 million Filipinos are expected to cast their votes on May 9, 2022.
Regular classes on May 16
Regular classes will resume on May 16.
Private schools and state or local universities and colleges offering basic education have the choice to implement or deviate from the order.
In the 2019 elections, over 500,000 teachers served as poll workers while roughly 36,830 schools were turned into polling centers. The national and local elections will be happening on May 9.
Over 60 million voters are expected to participate in the 2022 national elections, the first to be conducted as the country is still experiencing signs of pandemic.
