The Tacloban City DepEd Division has denied reports that difficulties in modular learning led to the suicide of a student in this city.

EDUCATION authorities in Leyte have denied rumors that the suicide of a minor in Tacloban City was sparked by modules that are being used in the victim's studies.

This, after rumors circulating in social media surfaced that the unidentified student living in Barangay 12, G. E. Palanong, committed suicide after having difficulty with the school modules that the agency has been using in the "new normal" of learning.

In a statement, Dr. Nilo Eder, information officer of the Tacloban City DepEd Division, said that they have coordinated with the student's school for an investigation which later found that the suicide was not caused by school-related difficulties.

Eder added that the student's family is not blaming school authorities for the suicide.

Meanwhile, DepEd continues to do its best in the implementation of "modular learning" to students in Tacloban City amid the continuing Covid-19 pandemic.

Eder also reminded parents that educating their children is not just the responsibility of schools but also theirs as well. (JKA)
