Motorists and pedestrians passing along the busy intersection of National Highway and Magsaysay Road in San Pedro City, Laguna can finally heave a sigh of relief.

This, after the city government finally took action on the long-standing problem of “non-functioning” traffic lights that had caused chaos along this intersection for months.

In a social media post Tuesday, March 31, the city government announced that it has undertaken the repair of traffic lights along two major intersections in the city: that of Magsaysay Road and Barangay Pacita 1.

“The Public Order and Safety Office - City of San Pedro assisted KIV Corporation during the repair works of traffic lights along Boundaries at Barangay San Antonio and Barangay Pacita 1,” according to the post.

“The activity aimed to restore the proper functioning of the traffic signal to improve traffic flow and ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians in the area while maintenance works were being carried out,” the city government added.

Motorists passing through the two intersections have long complained of times when the stoplights would simply stop functioning, creating a “free-for-all” situation that results in traffic jams especially during the rush hour.

The Magsaysay Road intersection has also seen its share of increased traffic, as motorists now use the intersection to proceed to the northbound exit of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) which was opened last year.

While traffic enforcers have been deployed during the periods when these stoplights become inoperative, some motorists have complained that it was often the deployment of these enforcers that would worsen the traffic situation.
