A heated argument over drinks turned fatal in Sitio Macaranas, Brgy. San Agustin, Basey, Samar, around 2:30 a.m. of Monday, April 15.
The victim, identified only as "Rey," 54 years old, a local farmer and resident of Sitio Macaranas, was allegedly fatally shot during a gathering near the plaza. He and the suspect, known only as "Kiko," were sharing drinks and laughter with friends when the incident happened.
According to initial investigations, as the drinking spree went through the night, tensions simmered and a heated exchange between Rey and Kiko escalated into a tense confrontation.
In a fit of anger, Kiko later pulls out a firearm, and shot Rey pointblank. Rey laid dead and Kiko fled immediately after.
Authorities collected from the scene two fired cartridges and one slug from a .45 caliber pistol.
Officials launched a thorough pursuit operation, tirelessly tracking down the suspect in the early hours of the morning.
At around 5:45 a.m. of the same day, Kiko was cornered in Sitio Roño, Brgy. Old San Agustin, Basey, Samar.
The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of escalating conflicts, especially in situations fueled by alcohol.
