THE Senate Committee on Energy Chairman Senator Win Gatchalian recommended to the Office of the Ombudsman the filing of graft charges against Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi and eleven other officials over the anomalous sale of government shares in the Malampaya gas project.

Gatchalian led the transmittal of the Senate resolution in recommending the filing of graft charges against Cusi and other officials.

The report contained the Senate's recommendation to file multiple graft violation cases for corrupt practice act gross neglect of duty, and grave misconduct against Cusi and eleven other DOE officials.

To recall, Sen. Gatchalian launched the investigation after the DOE sold 45-percent shares in the Malampaya gas project to an indirect subsidiary of the Udenna Corporation.

Gatchalian insisted that the DOE clearly favored Udenna Corp. with a capital of only P 6.9 billion, claiming the DOE allegedly hastened to approve the sale of 45 percent of Chevron's shares to UC Malampaya, a subsidiary of Udenna Corp. which he said lacks financial capability.

According to the report, up to P40-billion worth of Chevron shares were sold by the DOE to Udenna Corporation owned by businessman Dennis Uy .
