Some good things never last.
One of them is the prolification of the local movies when producer Lily Y. Monteverde breathed her last on Sunday, August 4.
She was 84.
Monteverde, popularly known as "Mother Lily," has been one of the beacons of Philippine cinema to light up the dimmest moments in the doldrums of manufacturing local 35mm films in the early years of the millennium to this very day.
Mother Lily, the Matriarch of Regal Films, died peacefully in the presence of her children, grandchildren, friends and close associates.
In a statement posted by Regal Entertainment which has started doing films in the late 70s, the Monteverde family is asking prayers from the public for the repose of her soul.
"Throughout her years she has not only been a mother to her children but also the 'Mother' to so many generations of Filipino filmmakers who have helped define what Philippine cinema is today," read the statement.
"Even in her final years, Mother Lily has served as one of the cornerstones of the movie industry providing opportunities to filmmakers both creative and technical--to carve their names in our popular history," it added.
Mother Lily died six days after the demise of her husband, Leonardo Monteverde, also known as Father Remy who passed on at 86.
Mrs. Monteverde has left a remarkable legacy of Filipino filmmaking with her memorable productions of 'Sister Stella L.," "Manila by Night (retitled "City After Dark" after a dispute with the censors during the dark days of the dictatorship), "Mano Po" series, to name just a few.
Mother Lily's remains lay at 33 Valencia Events Place until August 10, 2024, when they will be brought to the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.
