Creamline dethrones Chery Tiggo as it advanced to the semis of PVL Open Conference.
The Creamline Cool Smashers redeemed themselves from their finals loss last year as they dominated the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in four sets, 25-18, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, in the 2022 PVL Open Conference quarterfinals on Monday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
With a twice-to-beat edge, the Cool Smashers wasted no time in eliminating their rivals as they cruised the first two sets, breaking the focus and fire of their opponents.
Chery Tiggo, pulling a surprise came from behind third set win, stayed alive in which they had a 5-0 run at the 23-20 mark crediting then run to Jasmine Nabor’s tough serving and a late substitution by EJ Laure scoring back-to-back before a mishit by Carlos.
A surprise attack by setter Jasmine Nabor eventually ended the set and completed the Crossovers' comeback.
Tots Carlos led the way for Creamline, scoring in different zones with 17 points together with 16 excellent digs while Jema Galanza made 16 markers and nine receptions.
Jeanette Panaga also scored 15 markers, while Alyssa Valdez and Celine Domingo chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
"We were happy na talagang aggressive lahat. Unfortunately medyo nakuhanan din kami talaga ng set. Sabi nga ni coach, 'yun naman talaga, babalik at babalik 'yung Chery, with the experience from last year," said Creamline captain Alyssa Valdez.
"So we're just really thankful for the win today," she added.
On the Chery side, Paat was the lone player in double digits with 11 points while Laure had nine points in just three sets of action, and Dindin Santiago-Manabat was limited to only four points.
"Expected naman namin na hindi ganoon kadali 'yung game, kasi siyempre defending champions sila. Ready rin kami doon sa comeback nila sa third set, so naka-recover naman kami agad," said Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses.
They are now waiting for the winner of the quarterfinals match up between Choco Mucho and PLDT. Meanwhile, Chery Tiggo drops to the classification phase.
