It was a routine assignment that turned into a nightmare.
A 30-year-old police officer, on his way to monitor Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs), met with a tragic accident that claimed his life in a car crash in Barangay Potong del Sur, Lapinig, Northern Samar, on that fateful Wednesday morning, August 7.
The victim, Pnp Officer Sherwin Oray, a dedicated police officer assigned to the Lapinig Municipal Police Station, was a resident of Barangay Asum, Palapag, Northern Samar.
According to reports, the police officer was traveling from the police station to Brgy Alang-alang, Lapinig, in his silver-gray Mitsubishi Mirage, with the purpose of monitoring the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs), as he was assigned to the Intelligence division.
Tragedy struck around 4:30 in the morning. As the victim reached the uphill part of the road in Brgy. Potong del Sur, he suddenly lost control of the steering wheel of his vehicle.
The car veered off the road and collided with a coconut tree with such force that the front part of the vehicle was completely destroyed.
The impact was so severe that the officer sustained serious injuries to various parts of his body.
Quickly responding to the scene, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) rushed the victim to the Gamay District Hospital.
The officer was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician, Dr. Deborarrah G. Liao-Dy
