Senior Citizen Party-list Rep. Ordanes has assured the elderly that there will be an increase in funds for their social pension in accordance with RA 11916.

Senior Citizen Party-list Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes assured the senior citizens that the Congress leaders will see the need of increasing the poor seniors’ social pension to P1,000 in the 2023 budget this weekend.

“Congress will find ways to fund Republic Act (RA) 11916. We simply have to let the budget process run its course as it has in the House and is ongoing now at the Senate.” Ordanes said.

RA 11916 or the Social Pension for Indigent Seniors Act gives pensions to the elderly of P500 per month (which is now being doubled) so that it would help them provide better health and life care for themselves.

Senators and the House leadership are well aware of the law and its urgency. There is no doubt that RA 11916 will be implemented in 2023 because thorough behind-the-scenes work is ongoing. The optimal time to do so would be at the bicameral conference on the proposed budget for 2023.

“There is no let up in our hard work to champion the welfare of seniors, especially the indigents. We are unrelenting.” Ordanes added.

During budget hearings, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that P25,768,665,000 is required to implement a P500 increase in seniors' social pension pursuant to RA 11916 for the 4.085 million indigent seniors in 2023.
