Steps down, but will still fight to serve.

Earlier, OpinYon Media Advocacies Inc. publisher Ray Junia, shocked the masses by filing a certificate of candidacy (COC) to vie for a position in Congress against Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

While the netizens went crazy on the idea of an opposition, Junia, once again, surprised the public by withdrawing only to file his certificate for a bid as board member in the first district of Leyte.

"Nadalagan ako for a public position para makapag serbisyo. Now ma a-achieve ko la ito kun ako mag daog and get a elective position."

Junia also pointed out that in Congress, he has no chance against the current speaker.

An option

However, Junia is still set on bringing the essence of democracy to the first district of Leyte where the voters are given an opportunity to choose their leaders.

"Nag file ako ka congressman to encourage others to stand up. Yana Kay mayda naman gihapon nag file, I had to step down."

Junia also noted that he is only following the original plan and ran for a position in the provincial board.

With the two seats for board members seemingly waiting for the only two candidates who earlier filed their COCs, and are currently incumbent officials, Junia is a challenger and will not be going down without a fight.

"I am a journalist, I am a storyteller, and if this stories will lead to changes or improvements, let it happen."

Going against the flow

During the 2022 elections, current board member Atty. Bolingling Reposar topped with 61, 874 votes followed by incumbent Wilson Uy with 61,796 votes.

Both board members have established names in the local political scene and Junia is dead set on giving them a serious fight.

"Katibay hit mabangga hito nga duha. Incumbent pagod. Pero at least di na hira ma kukompyansa. Mapipiritan hira gumios kay may naka salakot man," local resident from Tanauan said.

Currently, many municipalities and provincial seats in the region are already a sure win for many re-electionists.

Former opposing teams decided to unite for hopefully a better team for the people,

However, the lack of opposition has also led to an anemic political scene in Eastern Visayas which will only stop if more new faces are given a chance.
