In pop culture, what is easily remembered is the song and the singer.

Rarely is the composer of the song recollected, much more, recognized, except for some singers and writers who give credits where credit is due to their performances.

Take for instance, the hit song of the late Asia's Queen of Songs, Pilita Corrales, "A Million Thanks to You" which is commonly recalled in the timeliness of the interpreter's death.

Pilita died on April 12, 2025 with no known sickness.

But Corrales' daughter Jackie Lou Blanco said that her mom died in her sleep.

Jackie Lou reiterated that she cannot forget the unwavering kindness pf her mother the rest of her life.

Blanco also serendipitously uttered by way of dropping the title of the famous song of her mom, "A Million Thanks to You," a million times over.

Incidentally, didn't you know that the composer of the song is a native of Nagcarlan, Laguna?

Yes, Lagunense Alice Doria-Gamilla, a bonafide citizen of Nagcarlan composed the popular song of the revered chanteuse.

Not known to the current generation but "A Million Thanks to You" was a freak hit which sold millions of copies during the mid-1960s.

The musical piece was the theme song of one of the longest running musical variety shows on Channel 3 in the 1960s, "An Evening with Pilita."

Alice Doria-Gamilla is a well-decorated composer of local music which earned her one of the Board of Directors of the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (Filscap), Inc.

As a living legend, Doria-Gamilla is one of the fiercest fighters of the rights of musicians to matter not only in the artistic endeavors but in the economic rights of musicians as well.

According to Wikipedia, "A Million Thanks to You" was also recorded by foreign singer Bobbi Martin for the "The Jackie Gleason Show" in the US in the 60s.

Martin's cover of Doria-Gamilla's original composition was part of her signature song "Don't Forget I Still Love You" rendition recorded in 1964.

In Pilita's death, "A Million Thanks to You" is revived by the musical spirit of the Filipinos.

Doria-Gamilla's other hit songs, "Sa Lahat ng Oras" is also being enjoyed by the musicality of our race.
