Marami nang nahalungkat, ngunit marami pang tiyak na nakabaon.

Like a sinkhole that grows deeper and deeper, the public has accepted that the ongoing revelations of massive, pervasive, and blatant graft and corruption in government is expected to grow deeper in the coming months.

In fact, we don’t even need the findings of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to confirm the “system of corruption” that has become an indelible part of governance.

The evidence is there. The documents are there. All that it takes are people who are willing to break the system of silence and greed.

In this regard, community leaders can play a big part in helping the public not just to understand the dynamics of corruption but also press for the necessary action to change the system.

Community leaders, professionals and intellectuals can actively help through providing the necessary information, explaining (in layman’s terms) the implications of this massive corruption in government, and helping the public take the necessary actions to keep up the pressure for accountability and transparency.

The fight against corruption shouldn’t just be a one-time protest event.

It should be an ongoing process of keeping up the pressure and encourage the masses to finally break the chains that tie the ordinary Filipino to a never-ending cycle of misery.

We don’t even have to act on a national scale. We can – and should – start breaking the cycle right here in our communities, where graft and corruption impacts our lives directly.
