Quezon City, Philippines – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) held its first command conference under the leadership of acting chief of BJMP Jail Chief Superintendent Ruel S. Rivera on Friday.

The bureau’s key officials and personnel convened to identify concerns and reaffirm the agency’s direction following the appointment of Rivera.

He highlighted the need for BJMP to continue implementing its best practices in the safety and security of persons deprived of liberty (PDL).

“Kung kinakailangang patatagin at palakasin pa ang mga programang ito, gawin natin,” he urged the other key officials.

He also discussed preparations for the upcoming Holy Week, which is traditionally a busy time for the bureau.

Rivera also focused on implementing measures to contain the spread of summer-related illnesses and diseases affecting PDL.

The acting chief instructed ground officials to ensure that jail facilities are prepared for this year’s barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections. That prison officials shall remain neutral until election time would begiven priority, he added.

“We want a peaceful election in our jail facilities, without any disruption, as we did in the past,” said Rivera.
