Coconut lovers, rejoice!

The Coconut Creations: A Coconut Taste and Crafts Showcase in Region 8 was a resounding success, demonstrating the immense potential of coconut as a key driver of economic growth and innovation in Eastern Visayas.

This collaborative project, spearheaded by Tingog Partylist, Department of Tourism 8, Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), and Department of Trade Leyte Provincial Office, brought together coconut farmers, stakeholders, and the public for a two-day celebration and showcase of various coconut creations.

Held during the 38th National Coconut Week at the People Center and Library in Tacloban City on August 27-28, the event showcased the diverse uses and crafts of coconut.

The event kicked off with a symbolic ceremonial coconut planting, emphasizing the vital role of coconut in the region's economy and livelihood.

The EVSU SAMLEYAW Performing Arts added a touch of local flavor to the event through captivating cultural dances.

Attendees explored numerous business stalls showcasing a wide range of coconut by-products and wandered through the "Coconut Odyssey: The Tree of Life Exhibit" curated by the Philippine Coconut Authority Office 8.

They relished a delectable assortment of coconut culinary treats prepared by the Eastern Visayas Chefs Association.

The event also featured trade fair exhibits showcasing other innovative coconut-based products, including tuba bahalina, coconut vinegar, and virgin coconut oil.

Something New

The "Coconut Conversation" sessions provided valuable insights on coconut production, trade and tourism.

In addition to the educational and cultural activities, the event also featured a coconut couture challenge fashion show, where Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Major in Clothing and Fashion Design students showcased their creativity and innovation using coconut materials.

The fashion show was a highlight of the event, attracting a large crowd of spectators and highlighting the potential of coconut as a sustainable and fashionable material.

The event served as a platform to recognize and celebrate the contributions of coconut farmers, stakeholders, and the entire coconut sector to the economy and livelihood of Filipinos.

Despite the success of the event, a netizen commented, “Damo nga nahihimo pero waray nakakarawat na benepisyo ang parag-uma han lubi puro la pa asa.”
