Taclobanons rolled out a warm Waray welcome for multi-awarded actor and filmmaker Coco Martin, who headlined the Toyota Tamaraw Roadshow at Robinsons Marasbaras on October 26.

The event, mounted by Toyota Motor Philippines in partnership with Toyota Tacloban, Leyte Inc., quickly turned into a mini fan festival as thousands flocked to see the star up close.

Before meeting fans, Coco appeared at a press conference in Summit Hotel Tacloban, where Toyota Tacloban Chairman and President Jimmy Yaokasin Jr. praised both the Tamaraw’s triumphant return and Coco’s role in bringing the brand closer to everyday Filipinos.

Yaokasin revealed that Toyota Tacloban itself recommended Coco as ambassador, citing his relatability, grit, and strong connection with the masa.

Coco echoed the sentiment, sharing that the Next Generation Tamaraw mirrors his own journey from humble beginnings to national success.

“It was designed with the needs of Filipinos in mind,” he said, calling the new model reliable, stylish, and proudly Filipino-made.

He recalled memories of washing his uncle’s Tamaraw FX as a child, noting how the vehicle has long been a symbol of practicality and aspiration for families and small businesses.

Once onstage at the mall, Coco shifted into full performer mode. Singing lively tunes, posing for selfies, hugging fans, and exchanging quick chats that left the crowd buzzing.

Lines for the meet-and-greet snaked across the venue, with fans cheering “Cardo!” and “Tanggol!” in reference to his iconic roles in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.

Coco graciously acknowledged each call with smiles, waves, and flying kisses.

This visit marked Coco’s third trip to Tacloban, his first being in 2013 when he joined ABS-CBN’s relief operations for victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda, an act locals still remember fondly.

Many Warays say this is why Coco remains one of the most beloved celebrities in the region: he shows up not just in moments of celebration, but also in moments of need.

Meanwhile, the demand for the Next Generation Tamaraw continues to surge across Leyte and Samar. Yaokasin shared that their dealerships, including those in Ormoc and Catbalogan thanks to strong patronage from MSMEs and families who grew up with the classic FX.

For Taclobanons, Coco’s visit was more than a promotional stop. It was a reunion with a star who feels like one of their own, down-to-earth, inspiring, and always ready to give back.
