The government should declare a "national climate emergency" due to the effects of the El Niño phenomenon, various environmental groups asserted during a press conference held in Quezon City Monday, April 22.

As the Philippines celebrates Earth Day on this day, these groups called on the Marcos administration to "immediately" provide assistance to farmers and other affected sectors, as well as allocating funds for the adaptation and resilience of vulnerable communities and the phasing out of fossil fuels.
