In her pursuit as President of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) to serve the artistic and cultural needs of the grassroots in the progress and development of the lives of the Filipinos, Michelle Nikki Junia regularly meets with the regional and local leaders of the Local Government Units (LGUs) to discuss possible partnership in the propagation of our heritage.

“I want my term to be a mass-oriented leadership of arts and culture in the country,” said Michelle Nikki in an interview.

Just a week ago, Michelle Nikki went to Puerto Princesa City in Palawan to personally monitor the progress and development of arts and culture in the province.

Nary of a breather or a restful sleep, she went directly to Valenzuela City to meet up with the arts and culture leaders in this urban community.

“From Palawan to Valenzuela city! With Mayora Tiffany Gatchalian and Director Mike Sandejas para sa (for the) CCP Cinema under the Stars, a flagship project of the CCP Film, Broadcast and New Media Division.

In the past, CCP Cinema under the Stars took pride in the screening of multi-awarded Filipino films like products of the annual Cinemalaya Philippine Film Festival.

Sandejas, an independent filmmaker and former president of the Directors Guild of the Philippines, is the key person in the scheduling and assisting in the curation of films to be lined up with the CCP Cinema under the Stars.

It’s summer and Valenzuela City residents will enjoy the showing of local films to be watched under the canopy of starry nights.

“We will go down to the masses to reach out and share the Filipino experiences and sensibilities captured in local films,” said Junia.
