Chot Reyes leads 14 other awardees for his 6th ‘Baby’ Dalupan award
TNT Head coach Chot Reyes was named as Coach of the Year for Season 46 by the PBA Press Corps and will be handed his sixth Virgilio ‘Baby’ Dalupan trophy in its traditional Awards Night set Tuesday at Novotel Manila Araneta Center.
Reyes winning the award for the sixth time is the most in the history of the PBAPC, though this is his first since 2011 he still beat Barangay Ginebra counterpart Tim Cone for the award.
Reyes, 58, completed his successful comeback to coaching in Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league after an almost decade of absence to lead the TNT Tropang Giga to the Philippine Cup championship.
This will be the first time that Chot will win the Baby Dalupan trophy with TNT, becoming only the second coach to win the award three times with the same team after San Miguel Beer's Leo Austria.
Reyes leads 14 other awardees in the PBA, hosted by veteran sportscaster Sev Sarmenta and former courtside reporter and now news anchor Rizza Diaz with guest of honor re-elected Bulakan, Bulacan mayor and former MVP Vergel Meneses.
Other awardees are Barangay Ginebra governor Alfrancis Chua, receiving the Danny Floro Executive of the Year, NorthPort forward Arwind Santos as Defensive Player of the Year, June Mar Fajardo for the Bogs Adornado Comeback Player of the Year, and Meralco's Allein Maliksi for Mr. Quality Minutes.
Also included are TNT’s Mikey Williams (scoring champion), willalso banner the All-Rookie Team composed of Terrafirma’s Joshua Munzon, NorthPort’s Jamie Malonzo, NLEX’s Calvin Oftana, and Rain or Shine’s Santi Santillan, and the Order of Merit awardees comprised by Magnolia’s Ian Sangalang, NorthPort’s Robert Bolick, and Phoenix’s Matthew Wright.
The Beermen and the Batang Pier will also receive the Game of the Season for the game which saw Alex Cabagnot drain game-winner to lift San Miguel to an 88-87 escape win over NorthPort in Game 1 of their Philippine Cup quarterfinals clash.
