It takes temerity and patience to fruition an ideal booking schedule for an indie spirit film shot and wrapped up a couple of years ago to a gullible Filipino moviegoing public.
But actress and producer Rebecca Chuaunsu knows how to put her money where her mouth is.
After screening and winning awards at last year's Sinag Maynila Film Festival, Rebelde Films and Rebecca Chuaunsu Productions' "Her Locket" is finally showing in cinemas nationwide.
Marketing, including arranging theater exhibitions of tentpoles, isn't a joke in this cutthroat competitive time in the entertainment industry.
And Rebecca is triumphant in her initial steps in playing footsie with the media market.
The timing of the opening today of the J.E. Tiglao-directed Chinoy masterpiece is an apt season in celebration of this year's Chinese New Year on January 29, 2025 simply resonating the unique cultural hegemony of the Chinese tradition in this given time while tackling a colorful and intriguing tapestry of Fil-Chinese narrative onscreen.
It's not enough that a film is good to be allocated cinemas in the local market, quantitatively, all commercial aspects must be inherent in the project to test the waters of the movie fans (read: ticket buyers) which Chuaunsu has earned in her longevity in the business not only as an actress but as a talent supplier, stage musical producer, showbiz consultant all rolled into one as well.
"Her Locket" is a family drama of filial love, betrayal and redemption.
It stars aside from Rebecca, Francis Mata, Boo Gabunada, Benedict Cua, Elora Espano, Rolando Inocencio, among other gifted theater, television and theater thespians.
It won awards as well, locally and internationally, such as the 2024 Sinag Maynila Best Film, Best Directors, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography and Best Ensemble Acting.
