Chinoy actress waits 32 years to fulfill dream film, win 2 Best Actress nods

Filipino-Chinese actress Rebecca Chuaunsu has been in the acting field for a decade.

Her professional thespic chops were tried and tested when she joined theater and got considerable stage exposure in a number of plays.

Later, she got her popular culture engagement when she joined the cast of the hit TV show, " My Binondo Girl" which starred Kim Chiu.

Aside from being a talent herself, Rebecca is a talent supplier.

"Yes, I supply talents to ABS-CBN GMA Network and practically to all networks," she informed me during the cocktail’s hour of the 2024 Sinag Maynila Film Festival at the Metropolitan Theater Ballroom.prior to its awards night held at the main theater.

"While I am a talent, I also supply talents. It's a nice arrangement," observed Chuaunsu who won Best Actress that night

She bagged the plum for her role aa a demented Chinese woman whose memory is brought back by her locket necklace in the movie "Her Locket," one of the seven full-length features of the Solar Entertainment and internatiomally renowned filmmaker Brillante Ma. Mendoza-organized film festival that ran from September4 to 10, 2024 in select moviehouses.

In her acceptance speech, Chuaunsu thanked Brillante who mentored her in film directing when she enrolled in his course workshop years back.

Rebecca's character as Jewel Ouyang who transitions from a little young girl to a student to an actress to motherhood to an arranged fiancee to olf age in the J.E. Tiglao masterpiece is epical.

Chuaunsu's multigenerational personas are portrayed competently by various actors in different stages.

Being one of the producers of the film caarying the outfit Rebecca Chusunsu Film Production with Rebelde Films, "Her Locket" is Rebecca's pet project.

"I have been nurturing this project since thirty-two years ago," she revealed.

It was only now that she realized this not without sacrifices and heartaches.

"When I initially started this film, my husband was hospitalized. At the time, I had to prepare P500,000.00 for his medical treatment.

"I was able to produce it at the same time that I was spending hundreds of thousands for the production. Sadly, my husband died during the making of the film.

"Then, my sister also got sick and died during the production. It was very unfortunate," she said, the pain in her eyes showed no matter how hard her smiles were painted on her face.
