Chery Tiggo lets go of veteran Maika Ortiz and six other players as they undergo a long overdue rebuild as the team has not been performing well in the recent PVL conferences.

The inaugural champions of the Premier Volleyball League’s (PVL) professional season, Chery Tiggo, had let go seven players in preparation for the Reinforced Conference in October.

Chery Tiggo announced that they are parting ways with Maika Ortiz, Rachel Austero, Joy Dacoron, Ellaine Kasilag, Justine Dorog, Ariane Layug, and Julia Angeles on Tuesday.

The team made the announcement through a Facebook post that they are parting ways with the players, all except for Angeles, that were part of the Chery Tiggo squad that won the first-ever professional title in the Ilocos Norte bubble.

“In every spike, every set, every dig, you’ve been there, Crossovers. Your Chery Tiggo Crossovers family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. Our memories together are forever cherished,” Chery Tiggo wrote in a post. “Good luck in your future endeavors! We’re rooting for you!”

Unfortunately, after their championship in Ilocos, the team went downhill in standings in both the 2022 Open Conference and the Invitational Conference in which they placed 8th in both.

To recall, a few months ago the team replaced long-time coach Aaron Velez, who was promoted to team manager, with Clarence Esteban as its new head coach.

The Crossovers on Tuesday also released a statement, announcing their ongoing major revamp from coaches and players to staff and management.

“This is a required course of action in strengthening the overall team composition, enhancing the chemistry among the coaches, players, and staff; and developing new techniques and strategies in winning that championship again,” the statement read.

Holdovers from the squad are Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Jasmine Nabor, Mylene Paat, EJ Laure, Shaya Adorador, Jasmine Nabor, Buding Duremdes, May Luna, Alina Bicar, Czarina Carandang, and Jaja Santiago.
