The Filipino-Italian, a crowd favorite, bested 31 other candidates in the coronation night of the 2022 Miss Universe Philippines. Apart from the crown, Cortesi won special awards such as Best in Swimsuit and Miss Photogenic. She was also named Miss Aqua Boracay and Miss Avana in the preliminary competition.
Originally there were 32 of them, but Benguet’s Shawntel Cruz had to bow out because she was feeling under the weather.
The 24-year old will represent the Philippines in the 71st Miss Universe pageant. She is vying to bring home the country’s fifth Miss Universe crown. Miss Universe 2022 will take place in San Jose, California in December.
Miss Universe Philippines Tourism is Michelle Dee of Makati, while Miss Universe Philippines Charity is Pauline Cocharo Amelinckx of Bohol. Annabelle McDonnell of Misamis Oriental was First Runner-up while Second Runner-up was Ma. Katrina Llegado of Taguig.
For her answer to the final Q &A portion, Cortesi was asked by former Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, “If you could stop time for a day, how would you spend it?”
Cortesi answered, “If I could stop time, I would spend it with my family, especially my mother. It’s been two years [since I have seen] my family because they live in Italy and I came to the Philippines just by myself, so if I had a chance to spend one day, I would definitely be with my mom and I would just tell her how much I love her and I miss her.”
The panel of judges included US lawyer and philanthropist Francis Padua, resort owner Tonee Co See, lawyer Margarita Gutierrez, MUPH’s Richelle Singson Michael, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu, FrontRow CEO Sam Verzosa, business mogul Lia Andrea Moss, FrontRow president RS Francisco, pediatric doctor Jennifer Olay, veterinarian-model Joshua Sorrentino.
