After the holiness of Filipino saints Lorenzo Ruiz and Pedro Calungsod, who will be the next Phiippine pious to be beatified by the Vatican?
Who would be next in line to be filmed as our native saint as the life and times of San Lorenzo Ruiz and San Pedro Calungsod were already translated into motion pictures?
In the Philippines, there are many candidates for canonization or beatification, one of them is the late former Archbishop of Cebu Rev. Fr. Teofilo Camomot, DD who was born in 1914 and died in 1988.
Archbishop Camomot was proclaimed by Pope Francis on May 21, 2022 as venerable.
In the process of canonization or beatification, a venerable attribution is given to a deceased person who has attained a certain degree of sanctity but has not been fully beatified or canonized.
At the moment, Cine Suerte, Inc. Is eyeing to produce the life of Archbishop Camomot into the big screen to be directed by Ben Yalung.
The production is now looking for actors to play the role in a still untitled project.
Who is Archbishop Teofilo "Lolong" Camomot?
Hailing from Carcar, Cebu, Camomot was ordained a diocesan priest of the Archdiocese of Cebu in 1941, he was appointed an auxiliary bishop in 1955.
He became coadjutor archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro in 1958, becoming titular archbishop of Marcianopolis. While waiting for then-archbishop James Hayes to retire, Camomot resigned for health reasons in 1970. He was killed in a vehicular accident in San Fernando in 1988 at the age of 74.
A process was started which may lead to his canonization as the next Filipino saint.
After further procedures and verified miracles, he may be canonized as a SAINT.
During an audience with Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Pope Francis promulgated several decrees, including one outlining the heroic virtue of Camomot.
