The Northern Samar provincial government has enthusiastically welcomed the announcement of Philippine Airlines' (PAL) new air route connecting Cebu and Catarman, with the inaugural flight scheduled for March 1.
The airline will operate thrice-weekly flights every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, marking a significant development for the region.
PAL will utilize an 86-seater De Havilland Dash 8 Series 400 Next Generation aircraft for these flights.
The flights will depart Cebu at 9:50 a.m., arriving in Catarman at 10:55 a.m., and return flights will leave Northern Samar at 11:25 a.m., reaching Cebu after an hour.
This new route is expected to provide easier access to the province's renowned attractions, including the stunning Biri Rock Formation, drawing in tourists from the Visayas, other parts of the country, and the international community.
Northern Samar boasts a variety of tourist destinations, such as the island town of Capul, Pink Beach on Sila Island in San Vicente, Lulugayan Falls in Silvino Lubos, Macagtas Dam in Catarman, Canawayon Island in Lapinig, and the natural lagoon in Mapanas, which will benefit from increased accessibility.
Governor Edwin Ongchuan and Vice Governor Clarence Dato met with PAL representatives on February 10 to discuss the maiden flight, with the governor expressing gratitude for the new route and its potential to attract investments and boost the tourism industry.
Currently, PAL already offers four weekly flights between Catarman and Manila.
