As part of its efforts to bring culture and the arts closer to the masses, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is now working with local government units (LGUs) to promote their own local culture.

Recently, CCP President Michelle Nikki Junia conducted a visit to Biñan City, Laguna, whose LGU has been very active in reviving its historical and cultural heritage.

Junia met with Biñan City Mayor Arman Dimaguila and Biñan City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO) head Bryan Jayson Borja Thursday, November 23, to discuss various local and national programs to increase public awareness and participation in culture and arts.

According to the Biñan City LGU, the meeting aimed to strengthen the partnership between the CCP and the LGU "to provide quality and accessible culture and arts programs to the people."

During the meeting, the Biñan City LGU shared with Junia its current and future plans for enhancing the city's cultural heritage.

Biñan City has embarked on an ambitious program to enhance public awareness of its rich history and cultural heritage.

These include the restoration of the historic Alberto Mansion in 2019, the rehabilitation of the Plaza Rizal that was opened to the public earlier this year, and the construction of the Sentro ng Patanghal na Sining ng Biñan at the city’s downtown area.

Since 2018, Biñan City has also been part of the CCP's "Kaisa sa Sining” program, which seeks to recognize the need to establish and further strengthen its linkages and cooperation with local organizations in order to broaden public participation in the arts and bring its programs and services closer to the people in the regions.
