Pupils of Pinyahan Elementary School, supervised by their respective teachers, begin their "Catch-up Fridays" program by reading storybooks inside their classrooms on Friday, January 12.

This is part of the implementation of the National Reading Program of the Department of Education (DepEd), which aims to strengthen foundational, social, and other essential skills for the basic education curriculum objectives. Between 2018 and 2022, the nation's Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) results revealed that over 75 percent of 15-year-old students scored below the minimum proficiency level in mathematics, reading, and science.
