Catbalogan City, Samar — The Catbalogan City Veterinary Office has confirmed that recent blood samples taken from the city slaughterhouse tested negative for African Swine Fever (ASF).
The sampling was conducted on July 15, 2025, by the National Meat Inspection Service – Regional Field Office 8 (NMIS RFO-8).
This result assures the public that pork from the Catbalogan City Slaughterhouse is safe, ASF-free, and fit for human consumption. As a precautionary measure, the slaughterhouse was temporarily closed from July 17 to 19 for thorough cleaning and disinfection.
Local authorities reiterated that the slaughterhouse continues to follow strict protocols set by NMIS to ensure meat quality and public safety. Regular inspections and testing remain a top priority as part of the city's ongoing commitment to health and food security.
The City Veterinary Office also thanked NMIS for its consistent support in safeguarding consumers and upholding the standards of the local meat industry.
