Catbalogan City, Samar – The City Social Welfare and Development Office of Catbalogan City held informative sessions on child protection laws at Barangay Guinsorongan and Canlapwas last Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The sessions, aimed at educating the local community, focused on Republic Act 11930, also known as the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children Act and the Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Act, as well as Republic Act 8353, which expands the definition of rape and reclassifies it as a crime against persons.

Daycare parents, notably those from the Poblacion daycare cluster, actively participated in the workshops, learning essential information on the legislative safeguards in place to protect children from abuse and exploitation.

Catbalogan City's Local Council for the Protection of Children expressed gratitude for the project, noting, "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Catbalogan City for their technical support that contributed to the overall success of the sessions."

These programs are a component of the local government's continuous endeavors to make children's surroundings safer and to advocate for their legal rights and protections.
