Tap for siomai. Use your Beep card to pay at select food stalls in LRT-1 stations in Baclaran, EDSA, and Balintawak.

You can now make the most of your Beep card as the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and AF Payments, Inc. (AFPI) is now pilot testing Beep payment and loading services with LRT-1 merchants.

“In a bid to make commuting more convenient and seamless,” LRT-1’s private operator kicked off the initiative last December 9 with Master Siomai as the launch merchant partner.

LRT-1 merchants will be equipped with a portable ‘Standalone Payment and Loading Device’ allowing them to process Beep-card payments.

With this, not only will passengers be able to pay for food items but also top up their accounts with any load denomination without the convenience fees charged by other loading partners.

Otherwise, Beep users can reload at select MiniStop stores, loading kiosks at bus stations, through PayMaya, and e-load stations at LRT-2 stations.

This new use for the Beep card is timely now that there is a demand for cashless transactions.

Once the EDSA carousel free rides are phased out, commuters are expected to pay with Beep cards. E-jeepneys have also been retrofitted to accept Beep card payments.

“We came up with this initiative putting in mind not just our commuters, but also our station merchants which will enable them to create operational efficiencies leading to better customer service,” LRMC Corporate Communications and Customer Relations Head Jacqueline Gorospe said.

According to LRMC, they are inviting other merchants to incorporate the cashless payment technology in their business for a safer and more convenient experience.
