Popular comics strip writer and film director Carlo J Caparas recently died of still undisclosed reasons.
But according to showbiz writer Mell T. Navarro, Carlo passed away on May 24, 2024.
He was 80.
"Ang kanyang wake ay kasalukuyang nasa GOLDEN HAVEN CHAPELS sa Villar Sipag Complex, C-5 Extension Road, Las Piñas City. Hanggang Lunes, May 27 na lamang ang lamay, at ihahatid na si Direk Carlo sa kanyang huling hantungan sa (Caparas' wake is until today, Monday and he will be brought to his final resting place on May 28, 2024), Tuesday," announced Mell.
Komikon (Komiks Guild of the Philippines), where he is one of its active members, mourns his untimely demise.
Carlo was a comics strip writer in the 70s before he went into film directing and producing in the early 80s.
Some of Caparas' famous works in graphic novels which were translated to film include "Ang Panday, "Pieta," "Somewhere," and "Bakekang," among others.
Carlo was also famous for making controversial movies based on true stories, such as "Vizconde Massacre God Help Us," "The Myrna Diones Story" "The Maggie de la Riva Story," "Lipa Massacre," "The Anabelle Haggins Story," and "The Lilian Velez Story," among others.
