March is Fire Prevention Month, and local government units (LGUs) across the country have been working closely with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to launch awareness campaigns, motorcades, and community engagements on fire safety.

However, for Carlo Aguilar, a longtime advocate of fire safety and candidate for mayor of Las Piñas, fire prevention should not be limited to a single month.

“Fire prevention should not be confined to the month of March. Safety during fires and natural disasters like earthquakes should be ingrained in the minds of both young and adult Las Piñas residents all year round,” Aguilar stated.
His call for stronger fire safety in Las Piñas comes after a recent fire in a residential area in Barangay Pulang Lupa on February 27, which reached the second alarm. Another fire incident was also reported in an open grassland field in Talon Tres, which was quickly contained with the cooperation of the city's efficient firefighters, including those from Pamplona Tres.

Aguilar is no stranger to supporting fire prevention efforts in the city. As a private citizen and entrepreneur, he has donated four fire trucks to Las Piñas, including the city’s first-ever ladder fire truck, significantly boosting its firefighting capabilities.

Looking ahead, Aguilar vowed that once elected, he will strictly enforce fire safety laws and ensure that commercial buildings comply with the Fire Code— including the installation of adequate exit signages, water sprinklers, early fire alarm systems, and other life-saving measures.

“We need to take fire prevention seriously, not just to protect properties but to save lives. If we want a safer Las Piñas, we must be proactive, not reactive,” Aguilar emphasized.

With his proven commitment to fire safety through direct contributions to the city’s firefighting resources, Aguilar aims to strengthen Las Piñas’ disaster preparedness and make it a safer place for all residents.
