To whom a forebear passes on his or her legacy as a successor?

Film director William Mayo, a native of the towns Unisan and Agdangan in Quezon Province, died recently due to organ failure.

He was the son of the late megman Eddie Mayo who passed on last year.

This columnist learned William's origins from veteran entertainment journalist Ronald K. Constantino who is from Unisan.

The Mayos therefore are CALABARZON citizens by virtue of their birthplace in Quezon, a region under the jurisdiction of the combined provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.

Anyway, who fills in the space left by the Mayos in the local film business?

In case of William, it is his son Jerome Mayo who inherited the filmmaking legacy of his dad.

Meanwhile, Eddie had left his legacy to James Mayo, another prolific movie director and a Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival alumnus.

William was 70.

The scion of Eddie was known for being an action director.

"The veteran director mostly helmed action and drama movies starting in 1980's. He was also the former president of KDPP (Kapisanan ng mga Direktor ng Pelikulang Pilipino) and PMPPA (Philippine Motion Pictures Producers Association) and was also a college professor in filmmaking," noted movie reporter Mell T. Navarro.

Some of William's movies were "Lapu-Lapu," "Pistolero," "Tres," "Anghel de la Guardia," to name just a few.

People of CALABARZON extend their sympathies to the Mayos.
