IN what appears to be an earnest effort to help decongest a major thoroughfare notoriously famous for heavy traffic congestion, exploratory talks are underway for the installation of a monorail system connecting the existing Light Rail Transit Line 2 and the upcoming Metro Rail Transit Line 4.
According to Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares III, the Light Railway Transit Authority (LRTA) is already studying his proposal designed to cut travel time in going to Metro Manila from Rizal (vice versa) via the Ortigas Avenue Extension.
The proposal is to come up with a monorail along Felix Avenue (formerly known as Imelda Avenue) connecting LRT2 and the MRT4 which is currently under construction.
He, however, admitted that the monorail system would take some time to materialize, citing meticulous study and tedious planning.
The local chief executive earlier met with representatives from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on the proposed cable car project which will connect the MRT4 to his city.
The mayor explained that the cable car project will also benefit residents from nearby areas as the city is seeing an influx of bus routes going to other provinces.
"Pag-aaral pa lang. Sana maging maganda ang resulta para matuloy. Wala namang imposible sa panahon ngayon," Ynares ended.
