It was a fitting tribute to the movers and drivers of Cabuyao City, Laguna's economic growth.

As Cabuyao celebrated its 14th cityhood anniversary last week, the local government led by Mayor Dennis "Denha" Hain gathered together the major business establishments that fueled the city's economy at the "Taxpayers' Night" held at the Conrad Hotel Manila in Pasay City last August 10.

The event honored the city's "Top 100 Taxpayers" - businesses and industries which, through their contributions to the city government, have enabled the LGU to expand its programs and projects that benefitted ordinary Cabuyeños.

Industry leaders

As expected, the list of the city's top taxpayers reflected Cabuyao City's rapid transformation from an agricultural town to one of Laguna's fastest-growing industrial, residential and commercial hubs.

The Top Ten taxpayers list was dominated by multinational companies that have selected Cabuyao's industrial parks as their manufacturing centers.

Number one on the list: Procter and Gamble Philippines, one of the most recognized industry players in home care, personal care, beauty/grooming and consumer health products.

This was followed by multinational pharmaceutical company Zuellig Pharma Corporation, while Ginebra San Miguel, Inc., the hard liquor arm of business conglomerate San Miguel Corporation, came in third.

This was followed by Concepcion Carrier Airconditioning Company; Unilever Philippines; Asia Brewery, Inc.; Concepcion Carrier subsidiary Concepcion Durables, Inc.; Bermaz Auto Philippines, official distributor of Mazda vehicles; Asia Brewery subsidiary Interbev Philippines, Inc.; and multinational cement manufacturing company James Hardie Philippines, Inc., which also bagged the Bagong Cabuyao Business Excellence Award.

Meanwhile, the following "single-proprietor" enterprises were also honored during the event: F. T. Pontillo Builders and Engineering Services; Versy Steel Trading; R. L3W Construction Services; SME Minimart; Decada Frigo Appliances Trading; Loyzaga Convenience Store; Victowin Engineering Services and Trading; Triple J 19 Consumer Goods Trading; VServe Trading; and MJ Catalonia Trading and Construction.

Vital role

In his message during the event, Hain underscored the vital role played by the city's top taxpayers in the city's socio-economic growth.

Aside from the taxes they contribute, these companies have also provided employment and livelihood opportunities for Cabuyeños, as well as making the city an attractive place to settle and raise families.

“Maraming salamat po sa inyong kasipagan at pagbayad ng buwis on time. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit kami ay nakapagbibigay ng proyekto at programa na nararamdaman ng mga mamamayan,” Hain emphasized in his speech.

“Kaya naman kada taon ipinapakita namin kung gaano kahalaga sa Bagong Cabuyao, dahil kayo ang nagbibigay ng gasolina at lakas sa Cabuyao upang matupad ang aming mga programa at proyekto.”
