Philippine Airlines flight PR102, bound for Los Angeles, was diverted and made an emergency landing at Tokyo's Haneda Airport after smoke was reported inside the aircraft cabin.

PAL management confirmed on Thursday that flight PR102, which took off from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Wednesday, April 9, had smoke coming from one of its two air conditioning units.

PAL's Boeing B777 with registry number RP-C7782, carrying 355 passengers, has landed safely.

According to PAL, "passengers currently remain on board as we work closely with airport authorities in Haneda to ensure a smooth and safe disembarkation."

"Rest assured that we are in full coordination with Philippine government authorities through the office of the DOTr Secretary and local airport authorities in Haneda," PAL said in a Viber statement.

It added that it will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
