The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced on Friday, February 7, that a member of the United States military was among the victims in an airplane crash in Maguindanao, but they are still confirming the nationalities of the other individuals involved.

According to CAAP, the US Embassy in Manila confirmed that a plane contracted by the US military crashed in Barangay Malatimon in Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur on Thursday, February 6.

The crash killed all passengers aboard the aircraft.

The agency said that it is collaborating closely with local authorities to determine the reason behind the incident.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft King Air 300 with registration number N349CA, departed from Cebu and was en route to Cotabato City for an aerial survey when it crashed.

The flight, it said, was part of a routine mission in support of US-Philippine security cooperation activities.

The Indo-Pacific Command released a statement regarding the incident that, "The aircraft was providing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support at the request of our Philippine allies."

Meanwhile, CAAP said further details will be provided once the report becomes available.
