CAAP: Fewer air accidents in PH in 2024

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said it has made a significant achievement in ensuring aviation safety by revealing a 48 percent decrease in accidents and serious incidents in 2024, compared to the previous year.

The CAAP reported that the year 2024 recorded zero fatalities, highlighting its strong dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the country's air travel system.

The agency said that the total number of accidents from 13 in 2023 to just four in 2024. While the number of serious incidents decreased from six in 2023 to four.

Last year's incidents were limited to general aviation and training activities, while commercial aviation reported no accidents or fatalities, maintaining a perfect safety record.

CAAP attributes its achievement to the thorough execution of safety initiatives, enhanced oversight of aviation activities, and cooperative engagement with aviation industry stakeholders.

The agency said it has continually prioritized enhanced pilot training, adoption of modern safety technologies, and the promotion of a proactive safety standards.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has also announced that it has met all the requirements for the enhanced Freedom of Information (FOI) standards for Fiscal Year 2023.

CAB's achievement was validated by the Presidential Communications Office's (PCO) Freedom of Information - Program Management Office.

The recognition affirms the CAB as compliant, pursuant to Section 5 (c) of Memorandum Circular No. 2023-1, S. 2023, issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Harmonization of National Government Performance Monitoring Information and Reporting Systems (Task Force Administrative Order 25, Series 2011).

"This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire CAB team to serving the public with excellence. Moving forward, CAB remains committed in promoting transparency, accountability, and openness in its operations," the CAB said in its FB page.
