The year 2024 will be a “boom” year for both local businesses and the local government of San Pedro City, Laguna.

That was the assertion of local government officials as it once again started its annual Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) at the Robinsons Galleria South Mall from January 2 to 20, 2024.

“Ang target po natin [sa local tax collections] ay about 15-percent increase, from the P426 million na na-collect natin as of November 2023 to around P521 million this year,” Elsa Santos, head of the San Pedro Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), said in an interview with OpinYon Laguna.

This year’s BOSS will still be conducted face-to-face; however, Santos bared that the city government is working to make business registration and renewal online before the end of the year.

“Sa ngayon po ay nag-iimprove tayo ng sistema, so baka bago matapos ang 2024 ay magkaroon na po tayo ng online [registration] kung saan pwede na tayong magparehistro o magpa-renew ng business license mula sa mga office o bahay natin,” the BPLO head noted.

Condonation for businesses with penalties

As part of efforts to entice businesses to register with the city government, Santos said the city government will offer condonation for businesses which have failed to register with the city government in the past years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Sa mga business natin na hindi nakapag-renew ng kanilang mga permit nang ilang taon from 2019 to 2023 ay may condonation po ang city government,” she announced.

Businesses who have failed to register from 2019 to 2020 will have their usual fees and charges waived by 100 percent, while businesses who have failed to register in 2021 and 2022-2023 will only pay 25 percent and 50 percent of their fees, respectively.

Meanwhile, Santos also reminded online establishments to have their businesses registered with the city government.

“Mas maganda po na maging legal ang business mo kasi maraming nanghihingi ng resibo nila tapos hinanapan sila ng permit lalo online madami kasing nanloloko dyan. Paano mo sasabihing legit ang business mo, dapat may permit,” she said.
