May pera sa flood control at AI, pero wala sa edukasyon?
Mariin ngayong tinutulan ng mga opisyal at kawani ng University of the Philippines - Los Baños ang pagtapyas ng bilyon-bilyong pondo para sa nasabing unibersidad sa 2027 national budget.
Sa isang pahayag ngayong Martes, August 18, ipinahayag ng Office of the Chancellor, All UP Academic Employees Union Los Baños, at UPLB University Student Council ang kanilang sama-samang pagkadismaya sa umano'y pagbawas ng P2.95 bilyon sa annual budget ng UPLB sa 2027 National Expenditure Program (NEP).
Sa inilabas na proposed NEP ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM), aabot sa P26.5 bilyon ang inilaan sa buong University of the Philippines system para sa taong 2027, kumpara sa P29.4 bilyon na inilaan naman ngayong 2026.
Anila, bukod sa maaapektuhan ang pang-araw-araw na operasyon ng UPLB sa pagbabawas ng budget nito, posible ring mabawasan ang kalidad ng edukasyon sa isa sa mga pangunahing unibersidad sa lalawigan ng Laguna.
"The proposed budget cut carries severe repercussions across the entire university community, directly compromising academic continuity, research capacity, and operational stability," ayon sa pahayag.
Hindi lamang anila mga estudyante, guro at kawani ang maaapektuhan ng nasabing budget cut kundi pati na rin ang mga magsasaka, mga rural community, at mga lokal na pamahalaan na naka-depende sa mga program ng UPLB para sa ikauunlad ng kanilang mga komunidad.
"While UP remains committed to fiscal discipline and transparency, austerity must not be selectively weaponized against public education and social services while billions in public funds remain vulnerable to inefficiency, questionable expenditures, and corruption elsewhere. Every peso diverted from higher education translates to a lost scholarship, an obsolete laboratory, an unfunded research initiative, or a worker dismissed," giit pa ng UPLB.
