Laguna Regional Hospital (LRH), the first tertiary-level hospital in Laguna province, will soon have another facility that will cater to the specialized medical needs of Lagunenses.
Last June 20, construction kicked off for the Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services (BUCAS) Center, located inside the LRH complex in Barangay Puypuy, Bay, Laguna.
Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez led the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new BUCAS Center, along with 2nd District Representative Ruth Mariano-Hernandez, Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Dr. Mary Ann Maestral, and Cavite 2nd District Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla.
Rep. Mercado represented her husband, Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr., who allocated funds totaling P100 million for the establishment of the facility.
DOH support
In her speech, outgoing Representative Hernandez expressed her gratitude to Health Secretary Dr. Ted Herbosa, a native of Calamba City, for giving full support to the construction of the LRH and the BUCAS Center.
“Ang DOH po ang nagpalabas ng position paper na favorable po para ipasa ang isinulong nating batas [Republic Act No. 12071, which was signed by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. last December 2024] para sa pagpapatayo ng ospital na ito,” she said.
The BUCAS Center is expected to complement the LRH’s services, offering orthopedic and general surgery procedures, out-patient services, reproductive health services, geriatric services, and laboratory and diagnostic services.
"The new BUCAS Center reflects our shared vision under the 'Bagong Pilipinas' platform for health facility enhancement - to build more responsive, more efficient and more compassionate health facilities that will meet the evolving needs of our people," Maestral stressed in her speech.
Governor Hernandez, who will take over as Laguna 2nd District Representative this July 1, also pledged to solicit support for additional funds for the LRH and the BUCAS Center in Congress, with the goal of the hospital becoming fully operational by 2028.
“Malayo pa ang ating lalakbayin dito. Naka-step one na tayo sa pagsisimula ng malaking proyektong ito. At ako po ay umaasa na sama-sama tayong tututok at lalaban para sa mga susunod pang pangangailangan para sa proyektong ito,” he said.
